Recently a concerned neighbour has informed me of a contract in place between the Knights of Columbus and Telus to erect a 30m high cellular towerat 4537 Rocky Point Rd. I concede with the compelling number of reasons brought forward as to why many of my neighbours in Metchosin are rejecting your proposal. However, I have an urgent matter which I would like to bring to your attention. Along with my husband and three children, I live very close to the proposed cell tower site (within 200m). This proposal causes me great distress considering my 11 year old daughter is presently on a harsh chemotherapy regiment for treatment of Relapsed Leukemia. I have copious amounts of stress and concern on a daily basis regarding her health and well-being. Studies have suggested that being exposed to electro-magnetic radiation emitted from these such towers greatly increases risks and incidences linked to childhood Leukemia ( among many other health issues which are too many to list ). As you may only imagine, I cannot ignore these facts given our disastrous circumstance. This tower will put my child's health at great risk (not to mention the many other children in the area). If a fraction of the information available about electro-magnetic radiation exposure is true, how can you knowingly expose individuals and potentially harm their health and well-being ? The distance which one lives to a cell tower should remain the decision of the resident himself, not the decision of his neighbour and a corporate giant where the fiscal bottom line is their only concern. Please don't gamble with our health. Please relocate this cell tower a good distance away from homes. In future, when development encroaches on a tower, potential residents would have the option of living near and exposing themselves to the towers, or not. An industrial tower does not belong in the heart of our little community. I am outraged at the idea that a corporate giant (Telus) and a group of Catholic men (Knights of Columbus ) together, without any empathy, can change the face of Metchosin and ruin it for the many who have made this community their home. I am hoping you will take the time to answer my questions: What effects of electro-magnetic radiation emitted from cellular towers are you aware of ? Are you aware that the proposed area is in the center of the greatest housing density in Metchosin ? What other sites have been explored, and why are they not suitable ? You are now aware of the ill health of a local child, does this effect your plan ? I hope you will treat your neighbours and clients with consideration, as if this were your back yard, and reach a solution to please all parties. Please make our future friendly.
